Mark Zuckerberg’s ‘Robinson Crusoe’ Moment

On the Fourth of July, Mark Zuckerberg, while holidaying in Hawaii, posted a short video that shows him riding a surfboard and holding an American flag. “Happy July 4th!”, Mark Zuckerberg wrote in the caption of the video. To show his patriotic spirit, Mark Zuckerberg added John Denver’s song “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

For me, this is a spectacular performance. Theatrically, it’s very entertaining. My first impression was that Mark Zuckerberg wanted to replicate a “Robinson Crusoe” moment. There are some similarities between them indeed: drifting, blue sea, and a beautiful island.

I said to myself: “Mark, are you homesick or seasick? You are not on country roads,  you are on the sea…but I assure you the ocean waves will wash you up to your home…” Don’t take offence, Mark, it’s just a half-baked joke. Go, Mark, go!
